Playing with Coach Zach

It is our privilege to coach your children. We believe that the purpose of football is to provide young people with the opportunity to practice the skills they will need to be successful in the adult world. To affect this, we promise to:

- Treat your kid as if they were ours

- Set high standards for your child as young adults and as athletes

- Coach them expertly and professionally

- Give them memories and experiences they will treasure the rest of their lives

Your role as parents and guardians is very important in your athlete having a great experience this year. This is how you can help them have the best experience possible:

Think of yourself as a member of the team.  The coaches are going to work hard to build a sense of unity among the group and they need your help in teaching your child that the team comes first.  Nobody truly succeeds unless the team is successful. Parents are always welcome to visit our “pow-wows” at the end of practice in order to listen to any instructions the coaches may have.

Help your kid over the rough spots.  There may be times when they are sore or discouraged.  Assure them that things will get better.  Remind him/her that aches and pains are something that football players have to deal with. Let them know that you are proud of them.

Help them take care of their bodies.  Be sure to get plenty of rest. Hydration starts at home! Dress for the weather (hot, cold & rain). Treat soreness or sprains with alternating heat and ice. There is a difference between hurt and injured. Everybody has to play football hurt or sore at some point. Injured is when you need to seek a doctor.

Enjoy the experience.  Let your kid cherish their time as a football player.  It goes by far too quickly!

The Depth Chart ... is just a guide tool. No player is ever “locked” into certain spots. Spots can be won or lost on a daily basis. Please do not hang much weight on this depth chart. Different teams require different adjustments. Any injuries could throw things “out of whack” as well. This is just a guide. I will start the players who know the system, who come to practice, who give forth 100% in effort and who will best suit the team as a whole on the field of play.

5th Quarter. This NOT a bad thing. It is designed for the kids who are first year football players, who aren't as big as some of the other kids yet and who may have not quite grasped the full extent of contact yet. The last thing I want is to see a young athlete seriously injured. If you the parents have a negative view of the 5th Quarter please keep it to yourself. Its there as a tool to get the experience to keep moving up the ladder of Rossford Football (5/6th, Jr High then High School). If your kid makes a good play in the 5th acknowledge it! We do with our weekly awards and film both the game and the 5th quarter. So we can correct things as needed or so we can "promote" an athlete to a position.

Playing with P.R.I.D.E. takes Courage!

Physical, Respect, Intensity, Discipline, and Execution.

This is my personal goal as a coach. By the time I am done with your children I want them to be able have these 6 attributes embedded into their sole. Once they know, learn and showcase these 6 embedded I firmly believe they can do anything!

Finally, I coach because I love kids. I used to coach adults and trust me id rather deal with a kid "watching butterfly's" than dealing with ego-maniac adults on a daily basis. I love this game (just ask my wife, I drive her crazy). I volunteer my time to help teach these kids the game while keeping them safe and trying to have fun so they want to come back each and every year, so we can watch them on friday nights and win some games both then and now! I'll leave you with the RLLF mission statement once again:

Rossford Little League Football seeks to develop well-rounded young men and women who learn the fundamentals of football or cheerleading, in an atmosphere conducive to developing a sound mind, body and character - and having fun along the way. The general objective of RLLF are to inspire the the youth of the Rossford community, to practice the ideals of sportsmanship and physical fitness. RLLF strives to make the game "fun" for all boys and girls. Coaches must constantly keep in mind the ages of the participants on both sides of the field. The program stresses learning lessons of value far beyond the playing or cheerleading days of the boys and girls involved, such as: self-discipline; teamwork; concentration; friendship; leadership; and good sportsmanship. With such goals in mind, and by providing an opportunity to participate in an organized, supervised environment with an emphasis on maximum safety and participation, RLLF offers young men and women a unique experience.

Thank you, Go Dawgs!
